Pradaxa® lawsuits from injuries including Heart Attacks
Lawsuits against Pradaxa® are currently being investigated after studies show increased risk of heart attack.
In early January 2012, new studies revealed that Pradaxa®, a blood thinner, may be linked to an increase in the risk of heart attacks or other similar bleeding complications, including acute coronary syndrome. This increase in relative risk could be as high as 33%. It is believed that the marketers of Pradaxa®, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., did not provide an adequate warning to individuals of the increased risk of heart related bleeding injuries. by a member of our experienced pharmaceutical drug litigation staff, please contact us immediately.

What is Pradaxa®?
Pradaxa®, also known by its generic name of Dabigatran, is an anticoagulant. It is usually administered as an alternative to Warfarin (commonly known as Coumadin®) because it requires less overall monitoring by physicians and has no dietary restrictions. It is most commonly used to prevent strokes in those patients that are suffering from atrial fibrillation, the most common form of heart rhythm abnormality. Recommended for approval in September of 2010, it was fully approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 19, 2010.
Injuries and Side Effects surrounding Pradaxa® use:
In 2011, the FDA has received numerous reports of bleeding injuries by those individuals taking Pradaxa®. These serious bleeding events could lead to a number of complications including:
- Unusual bruising or bleeding
- Hemorrhaging
- Discolored Urine
- Discolored Stools
- Frequent Nosebleeds
- Joint Pain and Swelling
- Death
Along with the reports throughout the year of increased bleeding injuries associated with Pradaxa® use, there have recently been studies released relating the use of Pradaxa® to an increase in myocardial infarctions otherwise known as heart attacks.
FDA issues safety announcement concerning Pradaxa® injuries
On December 7, 2011 the FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication regarding Pradaxa®. This communication indicated that the FDA was evaluating the numerous reports that it had received concerning the serious bleeding injuries associated with the pharmaceutical Pradaxa®.
Since this Drug Safety Communication by the FDA there have been other studies regarding the link between Pradaxa® use and heart attacks. A recent study by the Cleveland Clinic found a significant increase for heart attacks or myocardial infarctions in those using Pradaxa® to control stroke prevention, acute venous thromboembolism and deep venous thrombosis.
Pradaxa® Heart Attack Lawsuits
While no class action or multi-district litigation has been started for Pradaxa® lawsuits, the pharmaceutical attorneys of Kell Lampin, LLC expect that many lawsuits will begin to be filed for the failure of the manufacturers of Pradaxa® to warn individual patients about the overall risks associated with the drug and heart attacks or serious bleeding.
